F.A.Q

Q. Are you insured to drive my car?

We have a Motor Traders fully comprehensive insurance policy, with Tower Insurance, allowing us to drive your car, with your permission, on public roads.

Q. How long does the annual service take?

We aim to collect the vehicle in the morning at either 7.30am or 7pm the evening before (9.30am collect to be returned around 3pm on Ramsey booking form) and return around 7pm on the booked day.

Q. Do you let me know before any other work is undertaken?

Yes, absolutely. We will always contact you, normally via text message, if any other work is required before we start to undertake it.

Q. Can I drop my car off for a service?

Yes, you sure can. Generally, we can fit you in on booked up days if you can drop your car to us. Please contact us on 464171 to arrange.

Q. I had my last service done at Autobodies Service Centre …. are you connected to them?

Yes, we are, we have split the business so that the “Autobodies” name is dedicated to bodywork and paint work, now making Durrants Limited the servicing & mechanical side.

Q. What else do you do?

As well as the annual service we can also do brakes, tyres, suspension and lots of other mechanical work on your car.

Q. Do you do bodywork and alloy wheel refurbishment?

No as Durrants Ltd we are only doing your cars service and mechanical work, however Autobodies is highly recommended and as we share the same property, we can help arrange this for you.

Q. What does it mean if my “check engine” or “service engine soon” light comes on?

There are many sensors and computerized components that manage your vehicle’s engine performance and emissions. When one of these fails, the “check engine” light is illuminated. Although your car may seem to run fine, the light indicates that something internally is NOT working properly, it is important to have the issue addressed to prevent bigger problems which may occur if ignored – we run a basic OBD2 scan with every annual service and provide details of any codes found.

Q. When should I get my oil changed?

For most vehicles we would recommend having your oil changed once a year or every 10,000 miles (whichever comes first).

Q. Why is engine oil milky brown?

Milky brown engine oil is an indication of coolant/water in the oil. This can be caused by a blown head gasket (or other gasket), a failed oil cooler, or cracked casings. This condition is very serious and needs to be checked by a professional technician immediately.

Q. How do I make sure my car battery has a good electrical connection?

Battery cables and terminals should be cleaned and inspected periodically to make sure they provide a good electrical connection. It is a good idea to have your battery tested once it is 3 years old. We test the CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) and report the life percentage in each service.

Q. When should I replace my car’s fuel filter?

To help ensure dependable, trouble-free performance, replace your car’s fuel filter approximately every 30,000 miles or as recommended in your vehicle’s owner’s manual – we will check the schedule per vehicle information and inform you during an annual service.

Q. When should I replace my car’s brake fluid?

Brake fluid is a vital part of the braking system. It is what transfers your foot pedal movement to push a piston to operate your brakes. The majority of vehicles use Dot 4 brake fluid. This fluid is hygroscopic, which means it allows moisture/water to mix with it over time, this will cause corrosion within the braking components, causing items like brake calipers to eventually seize up.

As a general rule brake fluid should be replaced at minimum every 2yrs or when the moisture content is at a maximum 3%. We check the brake fluid at every annual service and will advise if it requires replacement.
